1. General information
With this subject the student will reach a critical and reflective knowledge of the theoretical and methodological perspectives in the intervention in Social Work. Know and understand concepts such as helping relationship; levels; methods and models of intervention. It will analyze the professional intervention in problematic, risk and crisis situations, from an approach centered on the potential of the person.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un. org/sustainabledevelopment/en/), such that the acquisition of the learning results will contribute to some extent to the achievement of targets 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 of Goal 1; 5.4 and 5.5 of Goal 5; 8.5 of Goal 8 and 10.2 and 10.3 of Goal 10.
2. Learning results
Know and critically understand the different theoretical and methodological perspectives in Social Work.
Analyse the nature of the relationships between professionals and users, and the potentialities and difficulties that mark them, taking into account the aspects related to gender and cultural diversity.
Know the main methods and techniques for interacting with individuals, families, groups and communities to promote change, development and improvement of their life opportunities.
Know and apply specific methods for different care settings.
Learn about ways to involve clients of Social Work services to increase their resources, capacity and power to influence factors affecting their lives.
Consult and cooperate with others, including clients of Social Work services, communicating across institutional and professional boundaries and differences in identity or language.
Apply needs assessment methods and possible options to guide an intervention strategy. Design, implement and evaluate intervention plans with persons served and other professionals by negotiating the use of services and reviewing the effectiveness of such plans.
Apply conflict resolution strategies through negotiation and mediation.
Identifying risk behaviors; detecting and dealing with crisis situations, assessing the urgency of the situations, planning and developing actions to deal with them and reviewing their results.
3. Syllabus
1) Different theoretical and methodological perspectives in Social Work.
2) Professional helping relationship: application of the methods and techniques of social work to different areas of care, involvement of service users.
3) Methods and techniques of intervention in social work: needs assessment. Professional intervention plans.
4) Conflict resolution strategies. Risk behaviors. Crisis situations.
4. Academic activities
With an active methodology, the learning of the theoretical concepts that constitute the axis of the methodological application in the planning and development of the helping relationship between professional and user will be promoted, through a reflective and critical intervention, supported by individual comprehensive reading and tutored learning in small groups and large groups.
Exhibit activities: (30 hours)
- Theoretical presentation by the faculty
- Seminars.
- Presentation of papers.
Dynamic activities: (60 hours)
- Tutored activities in small groups.
- Case resolution.
- Assessment activities.
- Elaboration of expository documents.
5. Assessment system
The subject establishes a mixed assessment system for both systems: continuous and global. As general criteria, students should: a) use precise and appropriate language; b) obtain at least a 5 in each of the parts (theoretical and practical).
Continuous assessment method (it is essential to complete at least 80% of the teaching plan):
- final written test (50%) with short development questions, where the student will demonstrate: o Knowledge of the concepts, theoretical and methodological perspectives.
o Integrate the applied reality reflexively from a critical approach through the appropriate methodology and intervention techniques.
- Portfolio (50%) of small group activities (practical assumptions; text analysis; reports and presentations) Global assessment method:
- final written test (60%) of developmental questions where the student will demonstrate: o Knowledge of concepts, theoretical and methodological perspectives in social work.
o Ability to integrate knowledge of the applied reality reflectively from a critical theoretical approach through the appropriate methodology and intervention techniques.
- Dossier of readings for personal and individual study (40%) where the student will carry out: o A critical analysis of the readings provided by the faculty.
o A practical case that will integrate the theoretical-methodological knowledge.
